Android Dev Summit Announces Agentic Tools and APIs
The Android Dev Summit brings new tools, APIs, and agentic integrations designed to streamline app development across devices and form factors.

Expanding Agentic Workflows and Studio Integration
At the recent Android Dev Summit, developers were introduced to broad updates aimed at reducing everyday friction and increasing development flexibility. Among the major announcements, Android Studio Rabbit 2 reached stability, allowing developers to integrate their preferred coding assistants directly into their development environment. This release supports tools such as Claude Agent, Codex, Antigravity, and over 40 ACP-compliant agents, unlocking a comprehensive suite of developer utilities.
To further support these workflows, the Android CLI now incorporates remote device testing via Firebase-powered Android Device streaming. Additionally, agents can natively render Jetpack Compose previews, enabling instant visual validation without requiring an Android Emulator or manual APK deployment.

Advanced Performance and Profiling Tools
Performance optimization received significant attention with new capabilities introduced to the Android CLI toolset. Developers can utilize enhanced Profiling tools to capture production-grade system traces using Perfetto. These traces help debug cold startup latency, background wakeups, and UI jank to ensure optimal application performance.
Furthermore, the Analyze feature allows teams to inspect app bundles and libraries for critical quality indicators like obfuscation, shrinking scores, and optimization metrics. This ensures codebases match Google Play standards prior to upload.

New APIs for Intelligent and Agentic Experiences
To support the rising demand for intelligent software, new APIs simplify the creation of agentic experiences across the ecosystem. The Android intelligence system delivers both prompted and proactive assistance. Developers can leverage the AppFunctions API in beta as a unified tool-calling layer to expose services to on-device or system agents, and prototype interactions through the Connected Apps Platform.
Additionally, the introduction of A2UI for Jetpack Compose in alpha allows agents to respond using real interactive UI components instead of plain text. Developers can also build custom on-device agents using Gemini Nano 4 via the updated ML Kit Prompt API and its new Agentic API, which manages conversation histories, guardrails, and orchestration loops automatically.

Scaling Across Form Factors and XR Devices
Adaptability across diverse form factors remains a core focus of the platform updates. The upcoming Compose 1.13 stable release introduces adaptive layout support with Grid and Flexbox migrating to stable, alongside new features like Progressive Blur. Meanwhile, AppState in alpha brings reactive state management down to the architecture layer.
In the spatial computing space, the core Jetpack XR SDK libraries have graduated to stable, offering production-ready APIs and backward compatibility. This launch coincides with the release of XREAL AURA, recognized as the world's first wired XR glasses powered by Android XR.
