Xreal Launches Android XR Aura Smartglasses From $1,279
Xreal has officially launched its Android XR-powered Aura smartglasses following their initial introduction at Google I/O earlier this year.

Pricing and Availability
Xreal has officially launched its Android XR-powered Aura smartglasses, which were first introduced earlier this year at Google I/O. The device is now available for pre-order for individuals who have already paid a reservation deposit, with entry-level prices starting at $1,279 according to reports from Engadget.
The glasses will ship with an accompanying compute puck and are offered in two configurations. The base model features 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, while the higher-end configuration includes 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage for $1,499. General public orders will open in the coming weeks, with initial shipments heading to the US, Canada, Japan, and South Korea, followed by additional global markets in 2027.
Hardware and Qualcomm Processing
Weighing less than 95 grams, the Aura operates as a tethered model that connects directly to a separate compute puck. The system utilizes the Snapdragon Reality Elite chip, which Qualcomm specifically designed to support augmented and mixed reality functions within smaller and lighter headset form factors.
The device comes in two distinct sizing options: medium, which covers 60-66mm, and large, which covers 66-72mm. Beyond functioning independently with the puck, the smartglasses can also be plugged directly into a computer if users want to utilize them as an external monitor.

Optics, Tracking, and Audio
The Aura features see-through lenses that allow users to view their actual surroundings alongside the virtual screen contents. Equipped with cameras for precise hand tracking, the hardware provides a 70-degree field of view. Testing during developer previews noted that the visuals remained sharp and bright even under sunny outdoor conditions.
For sound, the hardware incorporates Bose-engineered audio technologies. Visual outputs are paired with the capabilities of the tethered processing unit to deliver a comprehensive augmented reality experience.
Compute Puck and Software
The tethered puck handles compute power and runs Android XR, complete with Google Play access for applications and Gemini for AI capabilities. Xreal suggests carrying the puck on a lanyard or clipping it to clothing or personal belongings during use.
In addition to housing the core processing architecture, the puck includes a built-in trackpad and a fingerprint sensor to facilitate user navigation across the interface.
