First Discount Since Summer Launch
In addition to the Pixel deals that started last week, Google is discounting the Home Speaker for the first time. The Google Home Speaker finally launched on June 27. For the past four months, the retail price has remained steady at $99.99.
The Google Store is currently running a $20 discount that brings the Gemini-powered device down to $79.99. This promotional sale kicked off today and is scheduled to end on December 2, which falls two days after Cyber Monday. Interested buyers can also find this deal available at Best Buy and other participating retailers.
Design and Audio Specifications
The Google Home Speaker is available in a selection of four distinct fabric-covered colors: Berry, Hazel, Jade, and Porcelain. The hardware offers 360-degree audio, officially described by the manufacturer as "Omni-directional sound with 58 mm full-range driver," and it can be conveniently paired with the Google TV Streamer.
For voice input and privacy control, the speaker includes three far-field microphones alongside a physical privacy mute switch located at the base. Visual feedback is provided by a ring of status lights, while the top surface features three capacitive touch controls dedicated to managing volume playback and play or pause functions.
Smart Home Hub and Connectivity
Built-in Matter support allows the device to function as an effective smart home hub within a connected ecosystem. The hardware design incorporates a 59.1-inch USB-C cable that is permanently attached to the Google Home Speaker, while a 30W charger is conveniently included right inside the product box.
Standing at 3.4 inches high, the compact speaker is approximately equivalent to the height of two stacked Nest Minis. Its compact footprint enables it to fit easily onto various surfaces throughout the home while delivering robust connectivity options.
Gemini Integration and Subscription Details
Powered by "Gemini for Home," the speaker provides access to familiar voice commands and smart assistance features. However, users should note that real-time Gemini Live sessions require a Google Home Premium Standard subscription, which is priced at $10 per month or $100 per year.
To help new owners evaluate these advanced capabilities, each purchased speaker comes bundled with a 30-day trial of the subscription service. This allows households to test out the full range of real-time conversational features before committing to a recurring monthly or annual plan.
