Google Announces Quick Share SDK for Android and iOS Apps
Google has announced plans to release a dedicated Quick Share SDK during the first half of 2027, allowing developers to integrate peer-to-peer file sharing directly into their applications on both mobile platforms.

Android Dev Summit 2026 Announcement
At the Android Dev Summit 2026, Google officially announced the upcoming release of a dedicated Quick Share SDK. According to details shared during the event, the new software development kit will allow developers of both Android and iOS applications to directly integrate the peer-to-peer file sharing capability into their respective software solutions.
As reported by 9to5Google, the new functionality is scheduled to arrive in the first half of 2027. Rather than forcing users to first navigate through the system Share sheet and launch the standalone fullscreen Quick Share experience, the SDK streamlines the workflow by allowing in-app sharing implementations.
Streamlined User Interface for Third-Party Apps
When users trigger the sharing feature within a third-party application, the software triggers a specialized bottom sheet interface. This newly designed view enables users to directly observe the files that are actively being sent as a preview before the transfer completes.
By moving the interface directly into the application flow, Google aims to reduce friction during file transfers. Developers utilizing the toolkit will be able to provide smoother sharing interactions without disrupting the core experience of their apps on supported operating systems.
Cross-Platform Support Including iOS
A notable aspect of the announcement is the inclusion of cross-platform capabilities. Google confirmed that it will offer a Quick Share iOS SDK specifically designed for applications running on the iPhone, ensuring that cross-device workflows can be established seamlessly.
This expansion broadens the ecosystem reach of the peer-to-peer technology, allowing developers on Apple's mobile platform to leverage the same underlying sharing mechanics as their counterparts building software natively for Google's mobile operating system.
Core Security and Performance Capabilities
Google emphasized that privacy remains at the core of the upcoming architecture through end-to-end data transfers. The company explained that Quick Share is end-to-end encrypted between both devices, with file transfers occurring directly across local networks.
In addition to security, the SDK is engineered for low latency and maximum transfer speeds. The toolkit automatically handles hotspot creation and leverages Wi-Fi Direct on supported hardware configurations to optimize performance.
Offline Functionality and Availability
The file sharing capability is designed to function entirely offline, operating successfully even in the absence of a cellular network connection. This makes the tool practical for offline sharing scenarios and heavily constrained data environments.
Developers looking forward to implementing these capabilities can expect the comprehensive toolkit to become officially available during the first half of 2027.
