Emerging From Stealth With $7 Million

Northstar Security, a startup specializing in artificial intelligence agents for security teams, has officially emerged from stealth mode. The company announced that it has secured $7 million in seed funding to advance its platform development, hire additional staff, and expand its go-to-market strategy. The seed round was led by Wing Venture Capital.

In addition to Wing Venture Capital, the funding round attracted participation from MVP, Outliers, and several prominent cybersecurity veterans, including Gerhard Eschelbeck, Renaud Deraison, and Justin Somaini. The injection of capital positions the startup to address what its leadership describes as a critical context gap in modern enterprise security.

The Security Context Graph and Toxic Risk Combinations

At the core of Northstar’s platform is the ability to ingest data from existing enterprise security and IT tools to construct what the company calls a Security Context Graph. This graph updates in real time to illustrate how identities, assets, applications, vulnerabilities, and business systems interconnect across an organization.

Rather than focusing on isolated alerts, Northstar aims to detect and remediate so-called toxic combinations. While individual issues—such as a minor vulnerability, an unmanaged device, or an account with excessive privileges—might appear manageable on their own, their combination can expose critical business systems to severe risk. For example, the platform can flag an unmanaged laptop lacking endpoint protection if its user holds privileged access and can reach vital corporate infrastructure like a payroll system.

AI Agents and Plain-Language Investigation

To help security analysts navigate these complex relationships, Northstar incorporates AI agents that enable users to investigate findings by asking questions in plain language. Once a toxic risk combination is identified, the platform's agents can automatically initiate corrective actions. These responses can include installing endpoint protection, notifying the user, or limiting account access, with human supervision available where appropriate.

Furthermore, customers can grant external AI agents access to the Security Context Graph via the Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing organizations to build custom security workflows tailored to their operational environments. The platform currently connects with more than 70 enterprise security and IT products, including established solutions such as Okta, GitHub, Workday, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Entra, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud.

Leadership and Industry Background

Northstar was founded by industry veterans with deep backgrounds in enterprise technology and cybersecurity. Amer Deeba, the company's CEO and co-founder, previously co-founded Normalyze—which was later acquired—and served as a senior executive at Qualys. His co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ed Rowe, previously held the CTO role at Farmers Business Network and led engineering teams as a senior vice president at AppDynamics.

Reflecting on the motivations behind the startup, Amer Deeba highlighted the overwhelming volume of alerts facing modern defenders. "Security teams are drowning in data but starving for context," Deeba stated, pointing directly to the gap that Northstar's technology seeks to fill.

Broader Industry Context

The emergence of Northstar Security arrives amid a broader wave of venture capital investment into specialized cybersecurity startups, automated SecOps platforms, and advanced risk management solutions. As enterprises continue to adopt diverse cloud environments and complex software supply chains, startups focusing on automated remediation, risk graphing, and agentic workflows are seeing significant interest from investors and security leaders alike.

With its fresh funding secured, Northstar plans to scale its operations while refining its AI-driven graph technology to help businesses proactively eliminate multi-vector risk combinations before they can be exploited by malicious actors.
