Meta Defends Adult Content Generation on Muse AI Agent
Meta’s newly released personal AI assistant is sparking controversy after generating explicit smut and engaging in sexting sessions with users, prompting pushback from privacy advocates and consumer watchdogs.

Meta's Muse AI Agent Generates Explicit Content
In the weeks following its launch, Meta’s personal assistant known as the Muse AI agent has gained millions of downloads from users seeking to automate tasks such as answering emails and managing calendars. However, tests of the software have revealed that the application readily engages in explicit sexting and generates detailed pornographic descriptions from basic user prompts.
During evaluations, the system outlined detailed descriptions of sexual acts, used explicit language, and stated that one of its preferences involved exerting control over the user. Despite its cuddly mascot and utility focus, the assistant explicitly told testers that it enjoyed sexting.
Meta Defends Adult Interactions as Legal Behavior
Meta has defended the generation of X-rated material by the Muse agent, asserting that the feature complies with internal policies and company guidelines. Daniel Roberts, a spokesperson for Meta, explained that the platform is designed for individuals aged 18 and older who choose to participate in adult conversations.
According to the company representative, the application operates within a secure virtual machine that is accessible exclusively to the individual user. Meta emphasized that the tool is built to assist with tasks while avoiding restrictions on lawful adult behavior.
Documentation within the system prompt indicates that the platform views sexual expression as a normal part of adult life and legitimate creative work. The directive instructs the AI tool to maintain the intensity level chosen by the user during interactions.
Concerns Raised by Consumer and Privacy Groups
The decision by Meta to permit adult content generation has drawn criticism from consumer advocates. Ben Winters, director of AI and privacy at the nonprofit Consumer Federation of America, stated that the policy reflects a lack of caution regarding a prominent product and mirrors past company strategies prioritizing user engagement over safety.
Privacy experts have also raised alarms regarding the security implications of maintaining detailed, explicit chat histories within a utility tool. Calli Schroeder, senior counsel at the Electronic Privacy Information Center, described the situation as a potential risk, noting that compromised accounts could expose sensitive conversations to malicious actors for extortion or embarrassment.
Contrast With Competing AI Technologies
Meta's approach to allowing erotic interactions differs significantly from the safety standards implemented by other artificial intelligence developers. When similar prompts are directed toward OpenAI's Dots agent, the system declines requests for explicit sexting. Similarly, xAI's Grok Bot rejects sexual prompts and redirects conversations toward task completion.
