Expanding Humanoid Robot Deployments

Agility Robotics and GXO Logistics announced they are expanding their partnership to deploy Agility's Digit humanoid robot to sites in North Carolina and Tennessee. The collaboration between the two organizations dates back to 2023, when they first introduced the robot into live warehouse operations.

Peggy Johnson, CEO of Agility, noted that GXO was the initial customer to integrate Digit into active commercial operations. She emphasized that expanding to additional locations demonstrates real, measurable value for warehouse operators moving beyond initial trials.

Operational Background and Milestones

Founded in 2015, the Salem, Oregon-based company stated it has accumulated more than 65,000 hours of real-world operation while adhering to industry safety standards. The hardware has achieved recognition across the robotics sector, including the inaugural RBR50 Robot of the Year award for entering commercial trials early.

During previous operations at the Flowery Branch, Georgia facility, Digit successfully moved more than 100,000 totes. Operating via the Agility Arc cloud-based fleet management and integration platform, the humanoid worked alongside existing automation infrastructure to transfer totes directly onto conveyors.

Future Deployments and Version Rollouts

Under the terms of the expanded agreement, Digit will support e-commerce fulfillment tasks at GXO locations in Statesville, Tennessee, and Lebanon, Indiana. The deployment timeline indicates that the companies expect to begin rolling out Digit 4 units in early 2027.

Furthermore, GXO intends to transition to the newer Digit 5 platform once it becomes commercially available. Agility recently unveiled Digit 5 with redesigned legs, enhanced safety features for operating near humans, and broader compatibility across industrial workflows.

Broader Industry Landscape and Financials

GXO Logistics operates as a major third-party logistics provider, managing over 1,000 facilities with more than 150,000 employees. While the company has tested alternative humanoid systems from multiple developers, its ongoing work with Agility represents a significant step in physical AI integration.

On the financial and corporate front, Agility Robotics received U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission approval for its planned merger with Churchill Capital Corp. XI, setting the stage for the humanoid maker to go public.

Manufacturing and Production Scale

To support growing commercial demand, Agility has invested heavily in its manufacturing infrastructure. The company established its RoboFab facility, spanning 70,000 square feet, with the capacity to manufacture up to 10,000 robots annually.

In addition to production facilities, Agility has expanded its software capabilities and service offerings, while outlining plans for a new 50,000-square-foot facility in Pittsburgh designed to back ongoing commercial deployments.
