Overview of the November 2026 Security Rollout

Google has officially announced its new security updates for Android, resolving more than 200 vulnerabilities in total. Among the fixed security defects are two dozen critical-severity issues spanning various components of the operating system. The comprehensive monthly patches are divided into multiple security patch levels to ensure systematic deployment across supported devices. Further details are available from SecurityWeek in the original source material.

First Patch Level Focuses on Framework and System

The first part of the updates arrives on user devices as the 2026-11-01 security patch level. This initial phase successfully resolves 119 security defects distributed across the Android runtime, Framework, and System components. Specifically, the Framework component received fixes for the largest number of flaws at 65, while the System component followed closely with 53 bug fixes. Additionally, Google resolved a single high-severity information disclosure bug within the Android runtime. Further details are available from security bulletin in the original source material.

Critical Framework Flaw and Component Vulnerabilities

According to the official security bulletin, the most severe weakness patched in this cycle resides inside the Framework component and is tracked under the identifier CVE-2026-58868. Google stated that this critical security vulnerability could lead to remote code execution without requiring any additional execution privileges or user interaction for successful exploitation. Alongside this issue, critical-severity remote code execution, elevation of privilege, and denial-of-service vulnerabilities were also directly addressed within the System component. Prior to the monthly rollout, Google had already pushed patches for 17 of these particular flaws through Google Play system updates.

Second Patch Level Covers Hardware and Kernel Components

The second phase of the November 2026 security updates arrives on devices as the 2026-11-05 security patch level. This tier focuses on resolving 97 additional bugs located in Kernel, Arm, Imagination Technologies, MediaTek, Unisoc, and Qualcomm components. While the majority of these fixes target high-severity issues, more than a dozen address critical-severity weaknesses found in subcomponents such as Bluetooth, pKVM, HID, the MediaTek modem, and a closed-source Qualcomm component. Google notes that security patch levels of 2026-11-05 or later fully address all of these hardware-related issues.

Updates Extended to Android XR and Wear OS

Alongside the core Android mobile updates, Google published dedicated security bulletins for both Android XR and Wear OS. The Android XR update includes a fix for a high-severity flaw located within the Framework component, complementing the main release. Meanwhile, the specialized Wear OS patch successfully addresses two separate high-severity issues found across both the Framework and System components. These parallel updates highlight Google's ongoing commitment to securing its broader ecosystem of connected operating systems.
