Samsung and SK Telecom Build Korea's First Private 5G Smart Office
Samsung Electronics has deployed its private 5G network solutions to power a groundbreaking smart office at Hana Financial Group’s new headquarters in Incheon, South Korea, in collaboration with SK Telecom.

Transforming the Financial Workplace
Samsung Electronics announced that it serves as the sole vendor to deliver its private 5G network solutions, powering a smart office at Hana Financial Group’s new headquarters located in Incheon, South Korea. Representing the first initiative of its kind within the Korean financial sector, this new connected office is designed to enhance convenience in mobility and establish a strong foundation for enterprise AI transformation, all while meeting the stringent security requirements typical of the financial industry.
Built in collaboration with SK Telecom and Samsung, this large-scale smart office spans 16 floors of the headquarters and accommodates multiple group affiliates alongside thousands of employees. By utilizing 5G-enabled laptops, tablets, and mobile devices, employees gain the ability to access a seamless work environment from anywhere within the facility. This connectivity aims to drive a more efficient use of office space, support employee productivity, and foster an agile working culture while minimizing the time and resources required to reconfigure the physical building.
Meeting Strict Security and Regulatory Standards
Because financial institutions handle sensitive customer data—such as credit and bank information—and must operate under rigid network-separation requirements, traditional Wi-Fi adoption has historically been limited due to security concerns and cyber risks. To resolve this, the new project implements a multi-layered security system. This setup features enhanced encryption, a dedicated firewall, DDoS protection, and USIM-based authentication, which restricts network access exclusively to authorized devices and registered users.
According to the companies involved, Samsung’s private 5G solutions deliver the complete isolation characteristic of traditional wired networks alongside the modern convenience of wireless connectivity. Kim Goo-Young, Head of Enterprise Business Office at SK Telecom, noted that employees require a network that offers secure, reliable access to internal systems and data from anywhere in order for AI to be successfully integrated into daily work routines.
Advanced Technology Stack and Network Slicing
To bring the smart office vision to life, Samsung provided its full stack of network solutions, encompassing radios, baseband, and a cloud-native core. These solutions support the mid-band 4.7GHz spectrum dedicated specifically to private 5G networks in South Korea. Furthermore, Samsung’s 5G Standalone Core enables network slicing, a capability that divides a single physical network infrastructure into multiple virtual slices dedicated to unique applications.
Through this deployment, individual subsidiaries of Hana Financial Group are granted access to separate network slices. This configuration ensures independent operating environments tailored precisely to each subsidiary's specific security policies and overarching business needs.
Industry Implications and Future Outlook
Angelo Jeongho Park, Executive Vice President and Head of Strategic Sales for the Networks Business at Samsung Electronics, emphasized that the milestone highlights Samsung's leadership in deploying private 5G solutions capable of performing under the stringent security regulations enforced across highly regulated sectors.
By merging cutting-edge technology with extensive commercial experience across diverse industries—including manufacturing, finance, construction, and information technology—Samsung aims to deliver secure networks that allow businesses to integrate AI-driven innovations seamlessly.
