As Chinese users prepare to receive the major software update, the global release of the Android 17-based Redmagic OS 12 is drawing closer. According to reports, Redmagic is updating eight of its latest devices to Android 17 in China, a process that started alongside the debut of the Redmagic 12 Pro+.
Although the official global rollout schedule remains partially unconfirmed, the software roadmap for Chinese models has been detailed. The global version of Redmagic OS 12 is already finalized, especially given that the Redmagic 12 Pro gets a global release date scheduled for November 3, 2026, meaning the build just needs to be adapted for remaining supported hardware.
Release Timeline for Supported Devices
The initial phase of the Chinese upgrade cycle centers on top-tier releases, while subsequent phases stretch into early next year. Detailed timelines from is updating outline the specific rollout windows for various hardware iterations.
In December 2026, the upgrade will reach the Redmagic 11 Pro and Redmagic 11S Pro series. Following that wave, the schedule expands in March 2027 to cover the Redmagic 10 Pro series, Redmagic 10S Pro series, Redmagic 11 Air, and the Redmagic eSports Tablet 3 Pro. Fans expect international variants to receive these updates shortly after the domestic deployment concludes.
Visual Changes and Liquid Glass Design
Redmagic OS 12 brings substantial visual overhauls aligned with Android 17 design standards. The interface incorporates Liquid Glass-inspired elements, introducing a prominent lockscreen clock alongside expanded lockscreen customization options.
Additionally, a status bar feature named AI Magic Island functions similarly to a Dynamic Island. It expands to handle actionable notifications for music playback, ride-hailing services, and other interactive alerts, likely leveraging Android 17’s Live Updates architecture.
AI Integration and Gaming Enhancements
Performance enhancements and gaming tools remain central to Redmagic's software philosophy. The update introduces the MORA AI companion, a VTuber-style virtual assistant embedded directly into the system, accompanied by new AI Magic Assistant automated task execution features.
Furthermore, users will benefit from a refreshed Game Space application, an Esports Training Arena equipped with built-in shooting and reaction mini-games, the X-Gravity Platform 3.0 update, and improved live streaming capabilities.
