Nvidia GPU Driver 621.01 Adds Advanced Shader Delivery
Nvidia is rolling out a new GPU driver update that incorporates Microsoft's Advanced Shader Delivery to optimize game performance and eliminate mid-game stuttering.

New Nvidia Driver Brings Cloud-Powered Shaders
Nvidia is rolling out a new GPU driver today (621.01) that enables Microsoft’s new Advanced Shader Delivery technology to speed up game launches. The rollout brings fresh performance capabilities directly to compatible computer systems, allowing users to experience smoother initialization phases for modern PC titles.
In addition to accelerating game launches, the technology removes mid-game 'just-in-time' shader compilation, reducing stuttering and CPU spikes. Players frequently encounter performance hitches when games compile shaders on the fly during active gameplay sessions, making this optimization a welcome relief for system stability.
How Microsoft Advanced Shader Delivery Works
Microsoft’s Advanced Shader Delivery works by offloading shader compilation for different hardware combinations to the cloud. Developers utilize DirectX 12, Windows 11, and the Microsoft Agility SDK to capture shaders into a State Object Database (SODB), which permits Microsoft’s cloud network to precompile shaders for hundreds of thousands of hardware and driver configurations, as explains Nvidia’s Andrew Burnes.
By shifting this heavy computational lifting away from the local user machine and into cloud infrastructure, systems can bypass local preprocessing bottlenecks entirely. This creates a more streamlined software pipeline from the moment a user initiates a gaming application.
Supported Titles and Storefront Compatibility
Gears of War: E-Day and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 now both support Advanced Shader Delivery, provided that users download the games via the Xbox PC app. This integration requires specific software environments to function properly on supported machines.
Furthermore, this system is storefront-agnostic. According to Nvidia's team, users can still benefit even when playing games purchased on Steam, as long as the Xbox PC app is installed on the computer system.
Performance Benefits and Frame Rate Stability
The implementation of Advanced Shader Delivery lets players skip the annoying shader compilation screen in Call of Duty, while also improving the overall performance of supported games across the board.
With a near-100 percent cache hit rate, the system eliminates mid-game 'just-in-time' shader compilation, effectively wiping out CPU spikes and frame stutters in demanding titles like Gears of War: E-Day and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Gamers can thus expect a much more consistent visual presentation during heavy combat sequences.
Installation and Broad Hardware Support
Users looking to take advantage of these improvements can download Nvidia’s latest 621.01 update here directly from the provided distribution channels to initiate the installation process on compatible hardware setups.
Beyond Nvidia hardware, Advanced Shader Delivery is also supported on AMD GPUs using Adrenalin 26.6.1 or higher, as well as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 series equipped with driver version 2026.08.3 or higher, ensuring multi-platform ecosystem adoption.
