AMD FSR 4.1 Expands to Radeon RX 6000 and Xbox Series X/S
AMD has released FSR 4.1 to a broader range of older hardware, extending advanced upscaling capabilities to previous-generation GPUs and game consoles.

Bringing Cutting-Edge Upscaling to Older Hardware
AMD has officially expanded the reach of its upscaling technology by releasing FSR 4.1 for a wider assortment of hardware, including Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards, Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, Ryzen Z-series handhelds, and systems utilizing Ryzen AI Max and AI 9 chips.
This rollout follows previous updates that brought the technology to newer architectures, letting RDNA 2 owners experience enhanced visual fidelity without immediately needing to upgrade their systems. Further details are available from has announced an FSR 4.1 release in the original source material.
Technical Adjustments and Neural Network Adaptation
To achieve compatibility across older and more resource-constrained platforms, AMD modified FSR 4.1's neural network model. Instead of relying exclusively on the higher-precision FP8 matrix acceleration hardware found on newer Radeon 9000 cards, the updated upscaler supports INT8 shader hardware.
Additionally, the version designed specifically for handheld devices has been optimized further, reducing its memory footprint to less than half the size of the full desktop implementation.

Performance Impact and Visual Quality
AMD reports that games running on the newly supported GPUs and APUs will deliver noticeably better image quality compared to FSR 3 under equivalent conditions. Testing conducted with a Radeon RX 6900 XT running Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K in FSR Balanced mode revealed that enabling FSR 4 incurs an approximate 13% performance cost.
Despite this modest frame rate reduction, the company notes that the superior visual stability and sharpness in motion make it a worthwhile trade-off. Furthermore, the enhanced upscaling quality may allow users to drop down to a higher-performance preset—such as switching from Balanced to Performance mode—to fully offset any performance overhead.

Additional Software Features and Updates
Alongside the core upscaling improvements, the update introduces several supplementary enhancements. FSR Frame Generation has been updated to feature better frame pacing, which aims to resolve historical pacing complaints and deliver smoother overall gameplay.
AMD also confirmed that support for the Vulkan API in FSR 4.1 is slated to arrive in the future, providing a significant advantage for various games and console emulators. Meanwhile, FSR Ray Regeneration is expanding to more titles, highlighted by an immediate integration in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide.
Driver Availability and OEM Devices
PC users can access the new features by downloading the Radeon 26.10.1 drivers, which are available now through the AMD Adrenalin application or directly from AMD's website. This software update also introduces specific optimizations for games including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, and Final Fantasy Resonance.
For users playing on Xbox consoles or Ryzen Z2-series handheld devices, AMD clarified that system updates will be distributed directly by manufacturers, as those platforms rely entirely on OEM-specific drivers.
