Ryan Roslansky to Leave Microsoft and LinkedIn After 18 Years

Leadership Transition at Microsoft

Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella and Executive Vice President of LinkedIn and Microsoft 365 Ryan Roslansky shared communications with employees outlining a significant leadership transition. According to the [Microsoft Blog](https://blogs.microsoft.com/blog/2026/10/01/microsoft-365-and-linkedin-leadership-update/), Roslansky has decided to leave Microsoft after nearly 18 years across LinkedIn and Microsoft to embark on his next chapter. Further details are available from Microsoft Blog in the original source material.

Nadella and Roslansky discussed the product roadmap and determined that this is the right moment for the change. Roslansky is set to stay through the end of the calendar year as an advisor to Nadella to support the organizational transition.

Reflecting on Copilot and Microsoft 365

Nadella highlighted that Roslansky leaves the organization in a strong position. Through Copilot, the company is executing rapidly against its vision to build a new operating system for work spanning every model, form factor, and task, with Office fully embedded in Copilot.

Over the past year, Roslansky's team executed critical work bringing together the product, engineering, and design foundations required for this phase. Nadella noted that a recent product launch served as an important milestone, with strong responses from customers, partners, and the broader ecosystem.

LinkedIn Focus and Ongoing Growth

LinkedIn remains focused on its core vision of creating economic opportunity for every member of the global workforce. The platform aims to help its 1.3 billion members access knowledge, insights, and opportunities to navigate changing professional and labor markets.

Effective immediately, Dan Shapero continues in his role as CEO of LinkedIn, and Mohak Shroff continues in his role, with both reporting directly to Satya Nadella. Additionally, Sumit Chauhan and Lan Ye will report to Charles Lamanna.

Roslansky Looks Back at Nearly Two Decades

Reflecting on his career, Roslansky recounted starting out in technology and joining LinkedIn in 2009 as Jeff Weiner's first hire. Over the past 18 years, he worked on helping people find opportunity and subsequently perform great work.

When he became CEO of LinkedIn in 2020 during the pandemic, the team navigated uncharted territory, eventually helping the platform pass a billion members and nearly triple its business.

Building the Future of Microsoft 365

Last year, Nadella asked Roslansky to help build the future of Microsoft 365. Artificial intelligence was rapidly changing how professionals work, requiring the world's largest productivity suite to lead the way and establish what Copilot and the future of work should look like as a single ecosystem.

Roslansky explained that leading the next phase effectively would require being in Redmond full time, whereas his family life remains rooted in the Bay Area. Consequently, he decided the time is right to hand over the work to other leaders.
