OpenAI rolls out GPT-6 with Intelligent UI to ChatGPT
OpenAI has begun a global rollout of GPT-6 in ChatGPT, introducing a new Intelligent UI layer that enables interactive responses and faster answer delivery for its user base.

Global rollout of the next generation model
OpenAI announced today that GPT-6 is rolling out globally in ChatGPT, marking a significant expansion of its latest model family. While the first GPT-6 models were introduced last month for paid customers, this update brings the next generation of intelligence to a new GPT-6 model built for more than 1.2 billion people who use ChatGPT each week. The announcement, published on the OpenAI News blog, details how the company is combining frontier intelligence with a new interface layer to change how users interact with the assistant.
Intelligent UI enables interactive responses
The headline feature of this rollout is Intelligent UI, a capability that allows ChatGPT to answer quickly with fully interactive user interfaces. Instead of relying solely on text, responses can include graphics, tappable buttons, forms, charts, and interactive experiences that users can explore and use directly. OpenAI trained GPT-6 to compose responses using text, visuals, and interactive elements, choosing how they fit together based on the question. For example, an explanation of a 7-speed bicycle might appear as an interactive diagram where users can select a system to explore its role, such as how the drivetrain turns effort into motion. Users can also ask ChatGPT to create a tool for the task at hand, such as a calculator to explore how savings could grow or a bill splitter for dinner with friends.
To support this, OpenAI built a library of native, streamable components, along with a compiler that processes the interface as the model generates it, allowing the interface to appear progressively. Developers looking to build with this new model can refer to a practical guide to building with GPT-6 released earlier this month.

Faster answers through interleaved thinking
OpenAI is also focusing on latency, describing the update as Frontier Intelligence – delivered more quickly. With the introduction of reasoning models, users previously had to wait for the model to finish thinking before getting an answer. Now, ChatGPT can interleave thinking with answering, taking into account the user's waiting time and progressively composing an answer using knowledge and findings up to that point. In an internal evaluation of high-value, everyday agentic tasks, GPT-6 Extra High is able to begin answering in the same amount of time as GPT-5.6 Medium while achieving a better overall score than GPT-5.6 Extra High.
For questions requiring web search, GPT-6 Instant starts answering 44% sooner, on average, than GPT-5.6 Instant. The company also noted improvements in search quality, stating that GPT-6 makes better decisions about when to look something up and more reliably finds information that supports its answer. In an internal evaluation of difficult problems, GPT-6 correctly addressed the key aspect of the user's question more often than GPT-5.6.

Safety and alignment improvements
Alongside performance gains, OpenAI highlighted progress in safety and alignment. The company stated it works to improve how the model recognizes real-world risks, how honestly it responds, and how well it respects the limits that people set. GPT-6 builds on several of Astra's safety advances to better resist attempts to bypass its safety training and be clearer about what it can and can't do relative to GPT-5.6 Sol. Safety training was updated based on lessons from real-world use to strengthen protections against high-risk misuse involving cyberattacks, biological threats, and violence. In adversarial testing, GPT-6 showed stronger resistance to attempts to bypass its safety training, particularly attacks that adapt across multiple turns.
The model is also trained to respond safely in higher-risk scenarios while avoiding unnecessary refusals of harmless requests. More detail on the results and the company's review is available in the system card.
A shift in interaction patterns
The rollout represents a shift in how people interact with ChatGPT, moving away from fitting every question into the same conversational format. While the company acknowledged there is still work ahead to improve the model's design judgment, Intelligent UI marks a significant shift. This release follows other recent product updates from the company, including new ChatGPT features and advertising formats announced earlier in October.
