Samsung Announces Galaxy SmartTag3 With Cross-OS Support

Introduction and Design

Samsung Electronics announced the launch of the new <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/tag/galaxy-smarttag3">Galaxy SmartTag3</a>, a compact tracking device designed to offer everyday versatility, longer-range finding capabilities, and a lighter build. According to the company, the new tracker aims to provide simpler and more convenient methods for keeping track of personal belongings and pets.

The updated tracker features a compact form factor that is approximately 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than the previous generation. Its rounded physical profile includes an aluminum-decorated button to offer a durable feel. Additionally, Samsung is making official accessories available, such as a Silicone Case with a keyring and a Loop Case, to provide users with more carry flexibility.

Cross-Platform Support and SmartThings Find

In a first for the lineup, the device introduces cross-OS compatibility supporting both Galaxy and iOS devices. This allows families and groups to access core finding and sharing features across different operating system platforms. Users can check and share tag locations, as well as use Search Nearby functionality across supported devices via <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/tag/smartthings-find">SmartThings Find</a>.

The cross-platform integration is particularly useful when borrowing items like a suitcase for travel, as family members or friends can check locations from their respective iOS or Galaxy devices. The tracker also supports SmartThings IoT Control, enabling users to trigger preset routines for connected smart home devices using the physical button on the tag.

Extended Finding Range and Bluetooth 6.0

When locating a missing item, finding performance has been significantly upgraded through new hardware integrations. Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding enables Compass View to provide distance and directional guidance from up to 60 meters away, which is roughly three times farther than the previous generation.

As users get closer to the tracker, ultra-wideband (UWB) technology delivers higher precision to create a continuous finding experience from long distances down to close proximity. When items move beyond direct connection range, the <a href="https://news.samsung.com/global/tag/galaxy-find-network">Galaxy Find Network</a> leverages more than 900 million participating global devices to act as finding nodes and update location information.

Battery Life and Proactive Alerts

The tracking device offers industry-leading battery performance, delivering up to 550 days of operation under standard usage conditions. When switched to Power Saving Mode, battery life can extend up to 790 days, though certain features like Compass View and ringtone settings may become inaccessible while in this mode.

Beyond active searching, the hardware introduces proactive features such as Place Notification, which lets users define specific geographic areas and receive alerts when a tagged item moves in or out of that zone. Additional capabilities include Location History, Movement Detection Alerts, Left Behind Alerts, and NFC-powered Lost Mode to display contact info when scanned.

Pricing, Availability, and Durability

The hardware maintains an IP67 water and dust resistance rating to withstand everyday environmental exposure. Privacy and security remain protected through encrypted location data handled by the ecosystem.

Samsung stated that the tracker will be available first in Korea starting October 7, 2026, followed by releases in the United States and additional international markets throughout 2027. The device will be offered in White and Black color finishes.
