Avenda Health has announced the launch of Surgery Mode, introducing a suite of intraoperative features to its Unfold AI platform designed to enhance visualizations during robotic and non-robotic prostate procedures.

Avenda Health Expands Unfold AI for Prostate Cancer Surgery

Expanding AI into the Operating Room

Prostate treatment has benefited from robotics over the years, and <link>company</link> is looking to advance care further with the introduction of Surgery Mode for its Unfold AI platform. The multimodal, <link>AI</link>-powered prostate cancer mapping system is designed to reveal the true size and extent of disease, giving physicians clearer insights to inform their treatment decisions during complex medical procedures.

According to Shyam Natarajan, co-founder and CEO of Avenda Health, the goal of Unfold AI is to provide clinical clarity across every stage of a patient's cancer journey. Whether a physician is counseling a newly diagnosed patient, planning targeted radiation oncology, or performing a complex radical prostatectomy, having an accurate 3D map is intended to be transformative.

Features of Surgery Mode for Procedures

Founded in 2017 and based in Culver City, Calif., Avenda Health designed Surgery Mode to enhance how surgeons use 3D AI mapping during both non-robotic and robotic <link>surgeries</link>. The platform introduces several tools built to simplify patient case management and streamline physician workflows in clinical environments.

Within Surgery Mode, medical professionals can access enlarged 3D views for enhanced visualization, adjust cancer estimation maps to match the camera angle on surgical consoles, review underlying MRI slices during procedures, and view capsule risk scores directly from a dedicated surgical view.

Multimodal Mapping and Research Backing

Avenda Health stated that Unfold AI serves as a multimodal platform analyzing a patient's MRI, biopsy, pathology, and PSA data simultaneously. This analysis generates a personalized 3D map illustrating the exact extent of the tumor to provide precise boundary visualization.

The platform's capabilities are backed by <link>peer-reviewed research</link>, which predicted that Unfold AI could cut positive surgical margins in half and substantially lower the chances of cancer recurrence. In evaluation studies, the <link>system</link> outperformed traditional MRI modalities when assessing whether cancer had spread beyond the prostate.

Accuracy and Clinical Performance

Unfold AI has demonstrated <link>92% accuracy</link> in predicting cancer spread into nearby anatomy, a notable improvement compared to the 52% accuracy typically achieved using MRI alone. This spatial clarity assists surgeons in making vital nerve-sparing or non-nerve-sparing decisions during operations.

Additional data showed that Unfold AI supports the <link>identification of tumor extent</link>, raising physician sensitivity from 37% to 97%. By expanding the software from preoperative counseling into the operating room, Avenda Health aims to support medical teams throughout active surveillance, focal therapy, surgical interventions, and radiotherapy pathways.

Workflow and Administrative Enhancements

Alongside intraoperative visual maps, the software update includes several practical workflow management upgrades for care teams. Aligned Capsule Risk Score mapping automatically flips its left and right visual orientation to match the surgical camera view, supplying real-time quadrant feedback.

Other workflow additions include a redesigned patient list with case status labels, built-in administrative tools for verifying insurance approvals before map generation, and streamlined case management tools that let teams add patient notes directly and update assigned physicians on patient reports.
