Apple Prepares for 'Pro and Tell' Event with Touchscreen MacBook Pro
Apple is returning for another product launch following its recent [Welcome Home] announcements and [iPhone Duo announcement]. The upcoming 'Pro and tell' event is scheduled for October 28th at 1 PM ET in Los Angeles.

Apple's Upcoming 'Pro and Tell' Launch Event
It feels like Apple's [Welcome Home] event just happened, and the [iPhone Duo announcement] is not far in the rearview mirror. Yet, the company is back with another launch focused on the MacBook Pro. The [Pro and tell] event is scheduled for October 28th at 1 PM ET in Los Angeles.
While nothing is officially confirmed yet, it appears that consumers are finally going to get the long-rumored touchscreen MacBook Pro. Beyond that, there could be an OLED update for the iPad Mini, plus M6 updates across other devices following the M6 debut with the Mac Mini in August.
Expected Features of the Touchscreen MacBook Pro
A MacBook Pro featuring an OLED touchscreen has been a fixture of the [rumor mill] since at least early 2023. Although the name MacBook Ultra has floated around, Apple is unlikely to rebrand its flagship laptop line.
This upcoming release will mark the first touchscreen laptop and the first OLED laptop from Apple. It will reportedly feature an iPhone-esque Dynamic Island, but users should not expect a dramatic revamp of the macOS interface because the touchscreen MacBook is not going to be an [iPad hybrid]. It may include minor flourishes, such as a magnification effect when touching the screen or new gesture controls in native apps.
Processor Choices and Performance Details
The higher-end models are expected to [stick with the M5 series of chips] for the time being, specifically utilizing the M5 Pro and M5 Max. Reports suggest there [might not be an M6 Pro or Max], with Apple potentially waiting to upgrade its higher-end processors until it introduces the [M7 next year].
That does not necessarily mean an M6 MacBook Pro is completely out of the question. The base model of the MacBook Pro could receive a bump from the M5 after the M6 debuted in the [Mac Mini] earlier this year. It might also feature a slight redesign, including a hole-punch style camera, though it is expected to come with a price increase due to component shortages.
Updates to iMac and iPad Mini Lineups
The iMac is also expected to receive an M6 update, nearly two years after its last revision. Apple's all-in-one desktop appears set to skip the M5 entirely. Beyond the chip upgrade, users should not anticipate major changes, though new color options might be introduced, mirroring the M4 model release.
Additionally, another long-rumored device potentially making its debut is the OLED iPad Mini. Aside from the iPad Pro, Apple's tablet lineup has traditionally utilized LCDs. The new OLED iPad could initiate a broader transition for the product line, though the screen upgrade may add $100 to the cost. The device is not expected to undergo a significant physical redesign, but it will likely feature a processor upgrade from the aging A17 to the A20 chip that debuted with the iPhone 18.
