Google Launches the Pixel 11 Pro Fold With Incremental Upgrades

Design Changes and Build Quality

Google has officially introduced the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, maintaining a design similar to last year's model while introducing subtle refinements. The new device measures 5mm thick when unfolded, compared to the 5.2mm thickness of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, and 10.1mm thick when folded, down from 10.8mm. Users holding both devices may notice that the new model is 19 grams lighter, though the difference is barely noticeable for those switching from another brand.

Google claims that overall durability has been increased by three times. The device incorporates a new glass-ceramic cover and a glass-fiber composite back cover designed to absorb impact. Due to the strength of the hinge, the device is intentionally designed so that it cannot be unfolded with one hand. Additionally, the phone is available in a new subtle and striking olive color option.

Display Improvements and Visibility

The outer display on the Pixel 11 Pro Fold is slightly larger and features a significant upgrade to a 3,600-nit panel, improving upon last year’s 3,000-nit peak display. This higher peak brightness allows for improved usability in bright outdoor conditions.

Despite these display advancements, the foldable screen retains a very visible crease. The crease becomes even more pronounced under bright light, as the device lacks a reflective display coating, falling short of competitors like Oppo and Honor who have reduced crease visibility.

Camera and Software Features

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold features a competent camera setup, though it does not match the hardware found on slab devices like the Pixel 11 Pro XL review unit. The main 48-megapixel sensor has been updated to let in more light for improved photo detail, and Google has updated its software models to support 30x Super Res Zoom, an upgrade from the previous 20x capability. However, the telephoto and ultrawide sensors remain similar to those found on last year’s device.

On the software side, the device includes new features like Looks, which modifies image tones using presets, and Magic Capture, designed to select the best video frames for pet and child photography. Multitasking continues to support side-by-side app usage, with optimized apps like Gmail offering a split-view inbox layout, while third-party apps like Slack still lack proper split-screen support.

Market Pricing and Competition

Priced at $1,899, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold targets dedicated Google enthusiasts and foldable seekers. It enters a crowded market alongside alternatives such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the passport-sized iPhone Duo, while European markets will also see competing foldable releases from Xiaomi and Honor.
