Microsoft Updates Windows 11 with Memory and Performance Boosts
Microsoft is rolling out a series of updates for Windows 11 aimed at improving overall system responsiveness, memory efficiency, and hardware reliability for users.

Improving System Responsiveness and Memory Management
Microsoft has been working on several Windows 11 updates that are now beginning to roll out to all users following testing periods with Windows Insiders. Among the key enhancements, the company stated that it has made the operating system up to 20 percent more responsive by refining its memory efficiency and management capabilities. According to details shared in a blog post by Navjot Virk, Microsoft's corporate vice president of Windows Experiences, Windows 11 can now keep up to 2GB more active data directly in memory rather than pushing it to slower storage. This change helps personal computers remain responsive even as users open additional applications or browser tabs.
Virk highlighted that machines equipped with 8GB of memory could experience an especially meaningful difference following these optimizations. These efficiency gains arrive at a time when it has become increasingly expensive to upgrade RAM in a PC, a financial strain partly driven by AI data centers consuming large quantities of memory components. Because Microsoft is heavily involved in AI infrastructure development, these software optimizations offer a welcome mitigation for users constrained by hardware costs.
Optimizations for Lower-RAM Devices
To further assist systems operating with limited hardware resources, Windows 11 introduces specific behavior modifications for devices with 8GB or less of RAM. On these lower-spec machines, the operating system will now only load widgets when users explicitly open them. Microsoft reports that this adjustment alone will free up over 200MB of memory, allowing those system resources to be redirected toward other active tasks.
Hardware Reliability and Connectivity Enhancements
Alongside memory improvements, the latest updates focus on daily peripheral and security interactions. Microsoft notes that pairing AirPods with Windows PCs should now happen faster as part of a broader set of improvements targeting Bluetooth headphone reliability. Furthermore, Windows Hello logins have received updates intended to make the authentication process faster, easier, and more reliable.

New Features for Windows Insiders
Windows Insider testers are also currently evaluating additional features that Microsoft unveiled recently. Among these is a revamped Search utility that the company is effectively turning into a chatbot, enabling users to execute thousands of distinct actions directly through the search interface.
Updates to the Photos Application
Testing is also underway for a new Photos app featuring a redesigned gallery capable of gathering image files from local storage, OneDrive, and iCloud simultaneously. According to performance metrics provided by Microsoft, the built-in editor loads 25 percent faster, while the native viewer experiences a 30 percent improvement in loading speed.
