Apple Enters the Smart Display Market

Apple has officially revealed its long-rumored entry into the home smart display market with the introduction of the Apple HomeView. Designed to serve as the centerpiece of a renewed push into connected living spaces, the device combines a touchscreen interface with advanced voice capabilities and home control features.

The HomeView is priced at $299 and is available in two configurations: a tabletop model featuring an aluminum speaker base and a wall-mounted version. Preorders are open now, with general availability and shipping scheduled to kick off on November 13.

Hardware and Design Specifications

The HomeView is built around a 7-inch square Liquid Retina display that utilizes an ambient light sensor to adjust brightness from a maximum of 500 nits down to 0.3 nits, making it suitable for nightstand placement. The square form factor and customizable watch-like "Faces" give the interface an aesthetic reminiscent of an expanded Apple Watch.

Powered by Apple's A18 chip, the device features a 12-megapixel FaceTime camera equipped with Center Stage. The tabletop version connects its screen to a speaker base using a stainless steel hinge, housing a down-firing woofer and two force-canceling passive radiators alongside full-range drivers in the display. Meanwhile, the wall-mounted variant offers similar core functionality with custom audio tuning for wall placement.

Integration with Siri AI and Personal Context

The HomeView was built specifically for Apple’s Siri AI voice assistant. The assistant supports natural-language interactions, allowing household members to ask broad general knowledge questions, manage schedules, and control connected accessories using voice or touch.

By drawing on personal context from connected devices like an Apple Intelligence-capable iPhone on the same network, Siri AI can surface relevant information from messages, emails, and calendars while protecting user privacy through facial and voice recognition.

Smart Home Control and Ecosystem Support

As a smart home hub, Matter controller, and Thread Border Router, the HomeView can orchestrate a wide range of connected appliances. Alongside the display, the company introduced the Apple Home Collection, featuring devices such as indoor and outdoor cameras, thermostats, and a smart door lock.

The device can recognize up to six different users through its camera, adapting its interface and showing tailored app setups and message feeds depending on who is standing in front of the screen. When paired with an iCloud+ subscription, the system also supports encrypted recognition of people, familiar faces, pets, packages, and vehicles.

Software, Apps, and Availability

Instead of running a traditional App Store, the HomeView utilizes a curated selection of native apps and supports third-party media and audio apps built on the CarPlay architecture. Users can also transfer content and ongoing calls seamlessly using Apple's Handoff technology.

The tabletop model comes in four color options: silver, starlight, rose pink, and space gray. The wall-mounted version is offered in space gray and silver, with mounting options provided by Schneider Home. The device launches across eight countries on November 13.
