Apple's Smart Home Hub Reportedly Named HomeView

Introduction to HomeView

Ahead of an upcoming product showcase, new reports have surfaced regarding Apple's long-awaited smart home hub. According to a report by Bloomberg, the device will be called "HomeView" and will function as a central command hub for a user's ecosystem.

The device is expected to make its debut during an upcoming smart home event hosted by the company. As details emerge from supply chain and industry reporting, tech enthusiasts are looking closely at how the hardware will integrate with existing Apple ecosystems.

The naming choice reflects the functionality of the hardware. The "View" suffix is intended to indicate a display-focused interface primarily controlled via voice commands rather than a traditional tablet form factor.

Design and Configurations

Mark Gurman reported that the HomeView will be offered in multiple physical configurations to suit different living spaces. A countertop version will feature a metal speaker base available in space gray, silver, starlight, and pink finish options.

In addition to the countertop model, a wall-mounted variant will also be made available. However, the wall-mounted version will reportedly be limited to space gray and silver color configurations.

Unlike standard tablet devices, the HomeView will feature restricted software support. It will run a limited selection of native Apple applications and will not include access to the App Store.

Ecosystem and Third-Party Partnerships

Because the HomeView lacks an App Store, Apple is encouraging users to rely on accessories and devices that connect through Siri, the Home app, or other hardware ecosystems. To support this approach, Apple has reportedly been working with LG to build various smart home peripherals.

These hardware collaborations encompass doorbells, thermostats, outdoor security cameras, and other connected household gadgets. Furthermore, Apple has collaborated with Schneider Electric SE to provide accessories tailored to the European market.

All of these third-party hardware additions are expected to be marketed under a unified branding banner known as the "Apple Home Collection."

Additional Hardware and Release Timeline

Along with the HomeView hub, Apple is anticipated to introduce hardware refreshes across its smart home and entertainment lines. This includes a revamped HomePod mini model powered by the S10 chip, alongside a new Apple TV set-top box featuring the A19 chip.

While the refreshed HomePod mini and the new Apple TV unit are scheduled to hit store shelves by October 30, the HomeView hub will launch slightly later. According to industry reports, the HomeView is planned for a mid-November shipping window.

Following the release of the primary hub and audio gear, third-party products developed through partnerships with companies like LG are anticipated to arrive later in the year at the earliest.
