Introduction and Design
Following earlier anticipation and [teasing the name](https://www.engadget.com/2282887/google-teases-its-new-fitbit-edge-wearable-ahead-of-an-october-12-reveal/) on social media platforms, Google has officially pulled back the curtain on its newest fitness tracker. The device joins the company's wearable ecosystem as a mid-tier option that does not include all the features of a [Pixel Watch](https://www.engadget.com/2241496/google-pixel-watch-5-review/), yet surpasses the Fitbit Air in capability. It maintains a slim profile paired with a minimalistic OLED display.
The wearable is currently available for preorder through the Google Store and is scheduled to land in retail stores on October 27. The standard model carries a price tag of $179.99 and is offered in four color options: Obsidian, Fog, Olive, and Canyon. Additionally, Google is offering a Stephen Curry Special Edition priced at $219.99, which features a basketball-themed clock face, a Rye colorway, and a water-repellent, moisture-wicking band. Further details are available from Pixel Watch in the original source material.
Health and Fitness Capabilities
Packed with advanced health monitoring tools, the Fitbit Edge utilizes Google's Health Guardian to detect major shifts in health metrics over time, including potential indicators of insulin resistance or blood pressure changes. Continuous heart rate monitoring and rhythm assessments from the integrated ECG app enable the device to send alerts if it detects abnormally high or low heart rates.
For sleep tracking, Google reports that the hardware achieves 15 percent greater accuracy in sleep stage detection compared to previous generations, supporting enhanced sleep summaries and coaching assessments. When it comes to physical activity, the tracker supports over 50 exercise modes, providing real-time visual guidance to motivate users during workouts. Google also claims a 40 percent improvement in tracking accuracy for the built-in GPS.
Gemini-Powered Coaching and Customization
Users who maintain a Google Health Premium subscription can tap into the Google Health Coach powered by Gemini. This feature compiles fitness, health, and medical information to generate customized weekly routines and workout plans that automatically adjust according to the user's schedule.
The interface allows individuals to quickly switch between new clock faces while customizing complications to showcase specific metrics like step counts, weather updates, or sleep scores. Furthermore, every purchase of the Fitbit Edge includes a complimentary three-month subscription to Google Health Premium.
Battery Life and Longevity
Powering the device is a 65mAh battery designed to deliver up to a full week of usage on a full charge achieved in 90 minutes. For users on the go, a brief five-minute charge provides a full day of battery life.
To enhance long-term device sustainability, Google incorporated a replaceable battery into the design of the Fitbit Edge, complementing its baseline IP68 water and dust resistance.
Band Options and Availability
Beyond the standard colorways and the Stephen Curry Special Edition, buyers can customize their wearable with a variety of accessory bands. Options include the sweat-resistant Active Sport band, the comfort-focused Performance Loop band, and more refined choices like the Metal Links and Magnet bands.
As reported by [Jackson Chen](https://www.engadget.com/author/jackson-chen/), the device bridges the gap for consumers looking for a streamlined health companion without moving up to a full smartwatch.
