Samsung Brings Android 17 and One UI 9 to Galaxy S24 and Fold 6
Samsung has expanded its latest software rollout to older Galaxy smartphones in the United States and South Korea, bringing Android 17 features to devices like the Galaxy S24 and Z Fold/Flip 6.

One UI 9 Reaches Older US Galaxy Devices
Samsung has officially begun rolling out its One UI 9 update to devices that did not launch with the software preloaded, a month after the initial rollout started. According to reports from 9to5Google, the update brings Android 17 to a broader range of hardware, allowing users of older generations to experience the latest operating system.
The latest software package is currently appearing for users in South Korea and the United States. Owners of the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6 can check for the update directly inside their phone's settings application as a standard download.
Expanded Rollout and Device Timeline
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 were the first smartphones to receive One UI 9 because Samsung altered its update schedule a year ago. A month prior, the newer Galaxy S26 received access to the new One UI 9 build, which is built on top of Android 17.
Following the release for the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy Z Fold 6, expectations are growing that devices like the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 will follow shortly, though Samsung has not updated those specific models yet. While the update is live in select markets like the US and South Korea, additional regions are anticipated to gain access over the coming days.
Key Features Included in Android 17 Update
The transition to One UI 9 introduces several notable software additions across supported smartphones. Among the multimedia upgrades is My FanCam, a tool designed for automatic video tracking and the reframing of a subject during recording sessions.
In addition to media capabilities, the update integrates more Galaxy AI tools into the operating system. Users will find features such as Now Nudge, Creative Studio, Interpreter, Document Scan, and enhancements to the Voice Recorder application.
Privacy, Security, and Availability
Security and data protection have also received focused improvements in this release. The software brings comprehensive privacy and security features, including a Security Brief, Privacy Alerts, and Scam Detection mechanisms to safeguard everyday device usage.
For users who do not see the notification right away, the update should become available within the standard settings menu very soon. Device owners using older hardware configurations may need to wait a few additional weeks as Samsung scales up the regional distribution.
