Pricing and Release Date Details
Microsoft has officially announced the launch details for its most powerful Surface device yet. Months after initially revealing its Surface Laptop Ultra, the company has confirmed that the machine will officially launch on October 16th alongside other RTX Spark devices.
Prospective buyers can place orders right away, as the laptop is available to preorder starting today. Pricing for the device begins at $2,599 for the entry-level base configuration.
Hardware Specifications and Performance
The base configuration of the Surface Laptop Ultra includes an 18-core CPU, 24GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. At the absolute top end of the lineup, the priciest model costs $5,899.99 and upgrades those specifications significantly to include 128GB of RAM, a 20-core CPU, and 1TB of storage.
At the core of the machine's performance is Nvidia’s new RTX Spark chip. This Arm-based processor supports up to 128GB of unified memory. Both Microsoft and Nvidia are targeting the very premium tier of the PC market with these machines, aiming to deliver top-tier performance for creative applications, gaming, and local artificial intelligence workloads.
Display and Exterior Design
When it comes to visual output, the laptop ships with a 15-inch HDR touchscreen display capable of reaching up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness. Input is handled in part by a larger trackpad that features full support for haptic feedback.
The entire package comes with a sleek aluminum chassis that shares a visual resemblance to Apple's portable computers. This is no accident, as the laptop is meant to compete with Apple's popular professional lineup.
Ports and Connectivity Options
Despite its thin and modern profile, the Surface Laptop Ultra does not skimp on physical connectivity. The machine includes a diverse array of ports to accommodate various professional peripherals and accessories.
Users will find three USB-C ports, a single USB-A port, an HDMI port, a full-size SD card reader, and a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Furthermore, Microsoft has incorporated a magnetic USB-C charging solution to power the device.
Broader Ecosystem Context
The announcement of the Surface Laptop Ultra's pricing and release date was part of a much broader hardware showcase hosted by Microsoft. Reviewers and industry watchers can examine additional announcements and deep dives into how the company developed its latest flagship computer.
