Intel to Acquire Classiq for Quantum Computing Platform

Strategic Acquisition Announcement

Intel Corporation announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Classiq, a leading provider of quantum computing software. The agreement combines Classiq’s synthesis platform with Intel’s spin-qubit manufacturing and existing software expertise. According to the Intel Newsroom, this integration aims to create a user-friendly, full-stack quantum computing platform that helps mature the technology into a mainstream computing business.

More than forty years ago, the invention of Electronic Design Automation (EDA) and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software transformed silicon chip design and classical computing. These tools provided a common software platform that abstracted chip design from underlying hardware complexities. Classiq plays a similar role in the quantum computing landscape by providing a unifying software platform that remains agnostic to underlying qubit modalities and hardware architectures.

Complementary Assets and Scalable Technology

Classiq’s synthesis platform brings highly complementary assets to Intel’s quantum hardware and software capabilities, which have been developed over the last decade. Since 2015, Intel has invested heavily in quantum computing. Today, the corporation notes it is the only company capable of producing qubit chips and complex cryogenic control electronics at scale by utilizing equipment and processes common to conventional silicon-based semiconductor manufacturing.

The proposed acquisition merges Intel’s quantum software platform, scalable silicon spin-qubit technology, and advanced semiconductor manufacturing experience with Classiq’s automated quantum algorithm synthesis platform. This combination enables Intel to transform into a full-stack quantum solutions provider, allowing the company to introduce Quantum Processing Units (QPUs) to an already diverse compute portfolio that includes Central Processing Units (CPUs), Graphical Processing Units (GPUs), and application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs).

Leadership Perspectives on the Transaction

Lip-Bu Tan, chief executive officer of Intel, expressed enthusiasm for the agreement. "I am delighted to have Nir, Yehuda, Amir and the entire Classiq team join Intel," Tan stated. He emphasized that for more than a decade, Intel has made remarkable progress in quantum computing by applying semiconductor innovation, advanced manufacturing prowess, and systems engineering expertise to develop scalable silicon spin-qubit technology. Joining forces with Classiq directly transforms Intel’s Quantum Computing Group into a comprehensive, full-stack quantum computing business.

Nir Minerbi, co-founder and chief executive officer of Classiq, also highlighted the mutual benefits of the deal. "Since our founding, Classiq has focused on making quantum computing practical and accessible by enabling developers, researchers and enterprises to create scalable quantum applications without requiring deep expertise in quantum circuit design," Minerbi noted. "Together, Intel and Classiq can help unlock the benefits of quantum computing and accelerate its adoption sooner."

Future Outlook and Transaction Timeline

Following the close of the transaction, Intel intends to continue supporting Classiq’s existing multi-platform integrations. The company plans to ensure that Classiq maintains a modality- and hardware-agnostic software solution capable of fostering an open and collaborative quantum software ecosystem. The transaction remains subject to customary regulatory approvals and closing conditions. Current expectations project the deal to close in the first half of 2027. Until that time, Intel and Classiq will continue to operate as separate, independent companies while navigating the technical and commercial landscape of the semiconductor industry.
