Trump Unveils New Super Intelligence Force Task Force

Announcement of the Super Intelligence Force

As promised, President Donald Trump has announced the formation of a new Super Intelligence Force, which he said will be led by national intelligence director Jay Clayton and other members of his administration. The formal announcement was detailed in a Sunday morning post shared on the platform Truth Social.

“The Super Intelligence Force is tasked with coordinating the effort of the Federal Government to ensure that America continues to lead the World in Super Intelligence, which many say is bigger than the Industrial Revolution, and the Internet, and will protect the interests, and improve the lives, of all Americans,” Trump stated in his social network post.

Background on Administration AI Policy

Back in September, in response to an artificial intelligence safety debate that the president has largely dismissed as a hoax created by political opponents, Trump indicated he would nevertheless form a specialized administrative force and appoint a designated czar to oversee developments.

Since making those initial statements, Trump signed an executive order seeking to officially rebrand AI as “super intelligence,” a term that has seen adoption by technology executives who gathered at the White House to sign a non-binding safety pledge.

The adoption of the term by industry leaders has experienced some stumbles along the way, including an impressive typo found within the text of the official pledge signed by the administration and top industry executives.

Leadership and Structure of the Task Force

Given the recent terminology shift, it follows naturally that Trump’s newly established task force aligns with this branding. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Clayton will chair the Super Intelligence Force, effectively positioning him as the primary czar for the initiative.

Additional leadership roles within the newly formed task force include Federal Trade Commission Chair Andrew Ferguson, Undersecretary of War for Research and Engineering Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor, all serving as vice chairs.

Mandate, Risks, and Global Competition

The newly minted task force will reportedly have a strict window of 120 days to produce a comprehensive report outlining both the potential risks and the various opportunities presented by the technology. Jay Clayton previously stated that it would be irresponsible for the United States to step back while international competitors make rapid advancements.

In subsequent discussions covered by financial media, Clayton reiterated these sentiments, emphasizing that one of the most significant strategic dangers facing the country is simply "not being first" in technological supremacy.

Furthermore, the official charter for the task force outlines its objective to develop structured plans for responding to technology-enabled societal threats while simultaneously preventing overregulation and regulatory capture that could otherwise stifle domestic innovation and market competition.
