The Rise of the Agentic Internet

Cloudflare celebrated its 16th birthday by detailing how it is adapting infrastructure for an Internet where automated traffic has surpassed human activity for the first time. In this year's Founders' Letter, leadership reflected on how artificial intelligence is empowering individuals to build at unprecedented scales while influencing consumer choices through agent-driven recommendations. Further details are available from Cloudflare Blog in the original source material.

Across a week-long series of announcements, the company rolled out 46 updates spanning open-source commitments, application security, post-quantum cryptography transitions, and new economic models for the agentic Internet. A special follow-up also highlighted the progress of Cloudflare's intern program one year after setting a goal to hire 1,111 interns, noting that interns directly contributed to several major projects. Open Source and Developer Tooling

Monday of Birthday Week focused heavily on open source and developer flexibility. Among the major releases was the debut of a command-line interface designed to mirror the Cloudflare API with a JSON-first output and typed configuration, giving both human developers and autonomous agents a consistent toolset.

Accompanying the new CLI launch, Cloudflare introduced an open-source generation pipeline and a novel serverless content management system. These tools aim to streamline SDK generation and tackle long-standing web development vulnerabilities.

Further expanding its developer ecosystem, the company introduced an Astro-based serverless CMS running plugins inside isolated Worker sandboxes, and rolled out a portable way to run Next.js applications powered by Vite.

Browsers and Performance Metrics

As part of its developer platform updates, Cloudflare pushed further into infrastructure optimized for autonomous workflows. Updates to its Workers-based browser for agents introduced WebMCP support, faster DOM operations, and terminal-based rendering capabilities.

To help engineers analyze web performance at scale, the company made billions of anonymized real-user performance measurements from thousands of major websites publicly accessible via a BigQuery dataset.

Additionally, the company rolled out experimental Emscripten target support for wasm-bindgen, enabling developers to bring more native Rust libraries and applications directly to Workers.

Post-Quantum Security and Application Defense

Tuesday's announcements centered on application security and preparing foundational Internet infrastructure for the post-quantum era. Cloudflare announced its intention to become a public certificate authority, issuing free Merkle Tree Certificates designed to make post-quantum authentication practical without excessive handshake costs.

To support its internal migration toward post-quantum cryptography by 2029, the company deployed an AI tool to classify codebase cryptography, alongside new logging capabilities that allow customers to verify whether requests successfully negotiated post-quantum key exchanges.
