Atlassian and OpenAI are deepening their collaboration to connect advanced AI frontier models with enterprise knowledge, enhancing team productivity and workflows.

Atlassian and OpenAI Expand Partnership to Power Enterprise AI

Expanding the Partnership for Enterprise AI

Atlassian and OpenAI are expanding their ongoing partnership, which initially began in 2023. According to official announcements published by [OpenAI News](https://openai.com/index/atlassian-partnership/), the collaboration brings frontier models from the GPT-6 family across Atlassian's platform to power advanced AI experiences that help teams plan, build, and deliver work.

Under the new agreement, joint customers gain more ways to work with Atlassian products and OpenAI technologies. The latest collaboration gives Atlassian expanded access to cutting-edge models, including GPT-6 Astra and the GPT-5.6 series, as OpenAI continues to advance model capabilities, efficiency, and price-performance.

Powering Rovo and the Teamwork Graph

The newly expanded agreement sees OpenAI frontier models powering intelligent agents across Atlassian’s platform and Rovo. Rovo combines OpenAI intelligence with Atlassian’s Teamwork Graph, an enterprise context layer that connects people, projects, documents, and decisions, giving AI a deep understanding of how a company works.

Through OpenAI APIs, Atlassian can bring new reasoning capabilities directly into Rovo as models advance. This provides customers with access to increasingly capable artificial intelligence within the tools they already use daily.

Enhancing Engineering Workflows with Codex

The partnership arrives as Atlassian broadens its own internal adoption of Codex and ChatGPT Enterprise. More than 3,000 Atlassian developers currently use Codex across their terminals, integrated development environments (IDEs), and code review workflows.

Through Atlassian plugins powered by the Teamwork Graph, Codex users can access relevant work items and technical documentation. This integration helps developers write, test, and ship software more efficiently.

Connecting AI with Everyday Work

The collaboration extends beyond Atlassian’s native products through the Atlassian and Teamwork Graph CLI plugins for ChatGPT and Codex. Customers can connect ChatGPT and Codex to their existing workflows, granting AI access to relevant project information, documentation, and development context, subject to appropriate permissions.

Additionally, Atlassian launched a dedicated [plugin extension ](https://community.atlassian.com/forums/discussion/3288784/bring-your-atlassian-work-into-chatgpt-and-codex) that brings Jira work items, Confluence content, and people directly into ChatGPT and Codex prompts.

Pinned Atlassian Home elements also surface assigned work, recent Looms, projects, and Bitbucket pull requests, helping teams access relevant context and take decisive action.

Looking Forward to Next-Gen Teamwork

As the partnership grows, OpenAI continues to rely on Jira to help manage critical workflows across the company. Together, both companies aim to bring frontier intelligence directly into the tools businesses already use daily, making AI agents a natural part of how teams get work done.

The companies are also exploring deeper integrations with Jira that would make it easier for teams to assign work to AI agents, track progress, capture decisions, and review results. Paired with DX, Atlassian’s platform for measuring developer productivity and engineering performance, these capabilities could help engineering leaders measure AI’s impact while keeping humans in control.
