Apple announces HomePod mini 2 with Siri AI
Apple has announced HomePod mini 2, adding support for Siri AI, new colors, richer audio features, and expanded smart-home controls. Pre-orders begin October 13, with store availability scheduled for October 30.

Siri AI comes to HomePod mini
Apple announced HomePod mini 2 on October 13, positioning the new smart speaker around Siri AI, expanded audio capabilities, and connected-home controls. The company says Siri AI will arrive on HomePod mini 2 through a future software update and will make Siri more capable and conversational by adding personal context understanding, broader world knowledge, richer music discovery, and access to more apps. Customers can learn more about the device through the official [HomePod mini 2] product page.
Apple says Siri AI is built on a new architecture using the latest generation of its Apple Foundation Models. When HomePod mini 2 is paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, it can use a person’s personal context to help with tasks across supported apps. Examples provided by Apple include finding a song mentioned in a text message, setting a reminder connected to a calendar event or location, locating a recipe from an email, and adding ingredients to a grocery list.
The speaker can recognize up to six users in a household by voice and securely connect to each person’s device for activities such as accessing Messages, managing timers, and playing favorite music. Apple also says Siri AI can answer questions using up-to-date information from the web and support more natural back-and-forth conversations. Once Siri AI is enabled on a supported HomePod mini, users without an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad can still use its broader world knowledge, conversational abilities, and improved music discovery.

Availability and colors
HomePod mini 2 is available to pre-order starting October 13 from [apple.com/store] and through the Apple Store app in the United States and more than 23 other countries and regions. Apple says retail availability begins Friday, October 30. The speaker will be offered in pink, green, blue, white, and midnight, giving customers five color options at launch.
Siri AI will initially be available in English on HomePod mini 2 through a future software update in the United States, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. Apple says HomePod mini 2 is compatible with HomePod software 27.2. The company did not provide additional software-update timing in the supplied announcement.

Expanded audio and home theater features
HomePod mini 2 retains the compact speaker’s 360-degree audio approach while supporting several listening configurations. Apple says users can play room-filling audio through a single speaker, create a stereo pair, or use multiple speakers for multiroom audio. The new model is powered by the Apple S10 chip and computational audio technology that analyzes music in real time to optimize dynamic range, loudness, and acoustic performance.
For the first time, Apple says four HomePod mini 2 speakers can be used with the Apple TV 4K 4th generation to create a surround-sound setup. The speakers and the new Apple TV 4K recognize each speaker’s position in the room, allowing audio timing and levels to be calibrated automatically for the space. HomePod mini 2 can also act as a Mac speaker for movies, games, FaceTime, and video calls, with complementary colors intended to create a unified desktop setup.
Apple is also introducing Sound Glow, which turns the top of HomePod mini 2 into a visual surface that glows and pulses with music. The effect responds to bass and treble in real time, while album artwork from Now Playing generates a color-matched light experience for each song. Users can also select soundscapes such as rain, which trigger animations designed to create a more soothing atmosphere.

Voice control for the connected home
Apple continues to position HomePod mini as a home hub for managing compatible accessories. The company says users can issue voice commands to lock a front door, close a garage when leaving, lower blinds, adjust a thermostat, or turn off lights at bedtime. Through the Home app, users can automate accessories and create scenes that control multiple devices simultaneously.
As a home hub, HomePod mini can let users securely control accessories from the Home app on an iPhone while they are at home or away. Sound Recognition can listen for smoke or carbon monoxide alarms and send an immediate notification to a user’s iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch if an alarm is detected. Apple says users can then check in through HomePod mini and listen or speak to someone at home.
The new speaker also works with Apple Home Collection video doorbells and cameras. Using Face Recognition, Apple says compatible accessories can announce who is at the door. These features extend HomePod mini 2 beyond music playback, making voice control and home monitoring central parts of the product’s role in a connected home.

Privacy and processing
Apple says privacy and security remain foundational to HomePod mini 2. Siri requests can use on-device processing or Private Cloud Compute, which the company describes as extending the device’s privacy protections to cloud processing. According to Apple, data processed through Private Cloud Compute is not stored or made accessible to Apple or any other party.
The announcement presents Siri AI as a major capability change for HomePod mini while retaining Apple’s emphasis on private processing. The company’s stated approach combines device-based intelligence with Private Cloud Compute for requests that require additional resources, alongside voice recognition and personal-context features tied to users’ compatible Apple devices.
