An Entirely New Version of Siri Powered by Apple Intelligence
Apple has officially announced the next-generation Apple TV 4K, bringing an advanced conversational assistant to the living room. As detailed by Apple in the Apple Newsroom, the device features Siri AI, an entirely new version of Siri powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence. This upgrade transforms how users search for, discover, and enjoy their favorite movies and TV shows through an immersive full-screen Siri AI experience.
Siri AI functions as a profoundly more capable and conversational assistant equipped with personal context understanding and broad world knowledge. Users can ask complex queries, such as "What Apple TV shows won at the Emmy Awards this year?" and view poster art pulled directly from the Apple TV app along with relevant suggestions. While watching content, viewers can pose follow-up questions or tap into Siri AI's world knowledge to ask questions like "Where was Pluribus filmed?" or "Is this appropriate for a 15-year-old?" Responses appear in a compact, subtle overlay designed to keep viewers immersed in the action. Furthermore, when paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone, Siri AI can leverage personal context to handle requests like playing shows recommended by friends.
Hands-Free Control and Upgraded Far-Field Microphones
To support the new voice-driven capabilities, the device integrates three far-field microphones that enable a fully hands-free experience. According to coverage from Engadget, these advanced microphones feature echo cancellation to intelligently isolate the user's voice from background sound, ensuring crystal-clear recognition for "Hey Siri" or "Siri" commands even while media audio is playing at high volumes.
The revamped Siri Remote retains its familiar design while introducing enhanced tracking features. It now includes Find My support with Precision Finding alongside the ability to play an audible sound directly from the remote, making it much easier to locate when misplaced around the living room.
Faster Performance and Advanced Hardware
Under the hood, the streaming box is powered by the A19 chip. This new processor delivers up to 50 percent faster CPU performance and up to 2x faster GPU performance compared to the previous generation, resulting in heightened responsiveness, faster navigation, and smoother user interface animations. Additionally, the A19 chip incorporates a dedicated AV1 decoder, enabling more efficient and high-quality video streaming while consuming less bandwidth.
Immersive Home Theater and Four-Speaker Audio Setup
The latest hardware update also elevates home theater configurations by expanding audio support. For the first time, users can configure a four-speaker surround sound setup using the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K alongside HomePod mini 2 or HomePod (2nd generation) units. The connected speakers coordinate with the streaming box to automatically recognize their room positions, calibrating audio timing and levels specifically for the space.
Pricing, Availability, and Smart Home Integration
As a central home hub, the device facilitates smart home management through Apple Intelligence-generated camera activity descriptions and summarized notifications inside the Home app. Customers in the U.S. and 29 other countries and regions can pre-order the Apple TV 4K starting today via apple.com/store, with general store availability beginning on Friday, November 13.
The Apple TV 4K is available at a starting price of $299 in the U.S., or through monthly installment options. Additional details regarding software requirements and feature availability can be found across official support resources.
