Google Rolls Out Gemini 4 Argon for Paying Users

Google's latest advanced AI model is arriving for subscribers of its paid tiers, bringing high-end reasoning and agentic coding capabilities to the Gemini app, Antigravity, and AI Mode in Search.

Google Rolls Out Gemini 4 Argon for Paying Users

The Rollout of Gemini 4 Argon

Google is expanding availability of its advanced artificial intelligence model, Gemini 4 Argon, following an initial rollout to members of the Fairwind Program. The model is [now available] for developers via the Gemini API and Google's agentic software developer platform Antigravity, while individual users can access it through the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search.

The company initially revealed Gemini 4 Argon a few weeks prior, exercising caution due to safety considerations regarding potential malicious use. Despite those early warnings, the company has quickly moved forward with a wide distribution phase, though access remains restricted exclusively to paying tiers.

Subscription Requirements and Pricing Tiers

General access within the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search requires an AI Pro subscription costing $20 a month, or an [Google AI Ultra] plan starting at $99 or $100 a month. Free-tier users are excluded from using the new model.

Additional limitations apply to coding-oriented workflows. In Antigravity and AI Studio, Gemini 4 Argon is locked entirely behind the AI Ultra tier. Pro subscribers retain the ability to generate code using Argon via the Gemini app's Canvas mode, but multi-threaded agentic workflows remain restricted to higher-tier subscribers due to their high compute costs.

Developer API Rates and Discounts

Developers wishing to integrate the model through Google's paid API will face temporary introductory pricing. Costs are currently set at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, alongside a 95 percent discount for cached tokens. This promotional structure remains active through November 30, after which standard pricing is scheduled to double to $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens.

Internal Google Benchmarks and Use Cases

Google highlights the model's advanced reasoning, agentic coding capabilities, and suitability for complex tasks spanning finance, creative writing, software engineering, and cybersecurity defense. The system incorporates automated misalignment monitors and strict training protocols designed to halt workflows upon detecting unintended or malicious behavior.

According to the company, thousands of internal employees have already tested the model with notable success. Argon reportedly optimized YouTube's comment infrastructure by eliminating redundant emoji rendering, which lowered server load by 45 percent. Additionally, engineers applied the model to the proprietary drone physics simulator used in Project Wing, allowing the AI to uncover critical bugs that had persisted in the codebase since 2018.

Performance and Interface Updates

Josh Woodward, VP of Product for Gemini and Google Labs, noted that within the Gemini app, Argon delivers quicker answers with fewer repetitions, hedging phrases, and clichés. The model can also return progressive responses while continuing to process longer, more complex tasks. Furthermore, Google is introducing features that let users smoothly toggle between chats and tasks in the Gemini app, while integrating Antigravity's agentic coding interface into the Gemini macOS application.
