Following weeks of missing cellular signal indicators on vehicle dashboards, Google has officially confirmed that a corrective update is actively rolling out to users.

The Missing Signal Icon Issue

The corner of every Android Auto display is typically designed to show a phone’s battery status, the current time, notification counts, and the active cellular connection status. However, many drivers noticed that this cellular signal icon had been vanishing off and on for several weeks, prompting widespread discussion across online forums.

While the bug has not been entirely consistent or fully widespread across every single user, it created a frustrating experience for those whose vehicle dashboard indicators failed to show their mobile network strength properly. Recent updates have seemed to fix the issue for many users, but official confirmation from Google took a bit longer to arrive.

Google Confirms the Official Fix

Addressing the concerns directly, a Google representative took to Reddit to provide clarity on the situation. The official statement confirmed that the company is fully aware of the missing cellular signal reports and is actively pushing out a resolution.

According to the representative, the fix is currently rolling out to address the missing indicator. Because the patch is not universally available all at once, it may take some time to automatically reach every individual device on the standard release track.

Getting the Update Sooner

For drivers eager to resolve the problem immediately without waiting for a gradual server-side or stable rollout, Google noted that joining the official testing channel is an option, though the Android Auto beta program is currently full at the moment. Alternatively, some users choose to sideload updates at their own risk.

Recent software developments indicate that Android Auto 17.8 seems to successfully deliver the long-awaited fix, at least in part, as it begins deploying through the stable distribution track for compatible vehicles and smartphones.

Wider Deployment Across Devices

Google initially confirmed that the signal bar fix was underway earlier in the month. Over subsequent days, user reports have significantly increased, indicating a much broader distribution. Feedback from the community highlights that update revisions have successfully restored the status indicator for many drivers.

Although the missing icon is still absent for a small portion of users, the vast majority are finally seeing a resolution to this persistent bug, ensuring that mobile signal strength is once again visible directly on the vehicle display.
