Microsoft and Nvidia Launch Surface Laptop Ultra
Microsoft and Nvidia have teamed up to introduce the Surface Laptop Ultra alongside the new RTX Spark system-on-a-chip and major updates to Windows 11 focused on agentic artificial intelligence.

Surface Laptop Ultra and RTX Spark Debut
At a major launch event in San Francisco, Microsoft and Nvidia officially unveiled the new RTX Spark system-on-a-chip alongside the highly anticipated Surface Laptop Ultra. The announcement showcased a hardware and software ecosystem designed to push personal computing forward with advanced on-device and cloud processing capabilities.
The Surface Laptop Ultra is available for pre-order starting at $2,599, while the companion Surface RTX Spark Dev Box begins at $5,999. Both high-performance systems, alongside hardware from partners like Asus, Dell, Lenovo, HP, and MSI, are scheduled to ship on October 16.

Hardware Specifications and Design
Weighing in at under 4.5 pounds, the 16-inch Surface Laptop Ultra features a sturdy aluminum chassis and a minimalist aesthetic. The machine includes a tactile keyboard, a massive haptic touchpad, and a display boasting the brightest peak HDR performance on a laptop according to Microsoft representatives.
A notable hardware addition is the custom "magnetic connect" port. This offset USB-C connection uses a standardized port while employing a magnetic latching cable reminiscent of Apple's MagSafe or older Surface connectors, allowing users to safely disconnect if the cord is tripped over while still supporting standard USB-C charging.

Gaming and Performance Capabilities
Powered by Nvidia's graphics architecture and an Arm-based CPU, the Surface Laptop Ultra doubles as a capable gaming machine. Demonstrations at the event showed the laptop running Gears of War: E-Day smoothly at 60 frames per second at slightly above 1080p resolution, both while plugged into power and running purely on battery power.
Microsoft highlighted that hundreds of AAA and indie titles will be available on day one, with Call of Duty slated to arrive on the RTX Spark platform in 2027. Furthermore, Microsoft compared the Spark platform to Apple's M5 Pro in the MacBook Pro, promising significantly faster token generation, image generation, and video rendering speeds.

Windows 11 and Agentic AI Integration
The hardware launch coincides with major feature updates to Windows 11 aimed at agentic artificial intelligence. New quick actions in the taskbar search menu allow users to execute system changes, take screenshots, or arrange windows using natural language commands. The operating system also introduces Microsoft Execution Containers, which serve as secure sandboxes integrated with the OS to manage data shared with AI agents.
Microsoft detailed improvements to Copilot, granting the assistant access to local files, local models, and the ability to autonomously perform complex multi-step workflows. Additionally, the platform introduces hybrid intelligence systems like HydraFusion to balance local and cloud agents, optimizing resource management across various applications.
