Rivian’s R2 SUV Becomes Its Best-Selling Vehicle in Q3
Rivian reports that the newly launched mass-market R2 SUV has quickly emerged as its top-selling vehicle by volume, prompting the company to raise its full-year delivery guidance.

Rapid Adoption of the R2 SUV
Rivian’s recently introduced mass-market vehicle has quickly become its top seller by volume, marking an auspicious start for the company's expansion into higher-volume production. According to reports from TechCrunch, the company announced on Thursday that the all-important EV was its best-selling model in the third quarter.
Although the automaker did not disclose exact unit sales figures for the model over the three-month period, leadership expressed strong confidence in the commercial momentum. CEO RJ Scaringe noted in a statement that customer and media feedback on the vehicle has been exceptional as it outpaced legacy models like the R1T, R1S, and the Electric Delivery Van.
Upgraded Guidance and Production Growth
Fueled by the early success of the mass-market vehicle, Rivian improved its Wall Street delivery guidance for the second time this year. The company adjusted its expected delivery floor from a previous range of 65,000 to 70,000 vehicles up to 67,000 EVs for the full year.
This positive trajectory puts Rivian on a path to move past a three-year period where annual shipments hovered below the 50,000 threshold. The company built 19,751 vehicles and delivered 19,248 during the third quarter, representing substantial year-over-year gains driven heavily by a second production shift at its manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois.

Financial Performance and Software Revenue
Alongside vehicle delivery numbers, Rivian reported strong financial results for the third quarter of 2026. According to coverage from The Verge, the automaker generated total revenue exceeding $2.1 billion, supported by growing automotive revenue as well as high-margin software and subscription offerings.
The company’s software and services division brought in significant profit margins, bolstered by customer subscriptions for digital capabilities and ongoing technology licensing agreements. These high-margin revenue streams have helped offset the heavy upfront capital expenditures required to scale production for its newer vehicle lineups.
Market Strategy and Future Pricing
The early commercial traction arrives during a shifting regulatory landscape for the electric vehicle industry. Following changes to federal tax incentives and regulatory frameworks in the United States, several major automakers have pivoted attention back toward internal combustion and hybrid options, leaving room for dedicated EV manufacturers.
Rivian initially launched the R2 with a starting price just under $60,000, and additional lower-cost configurations are slated to arrive over the coming years to capture an even broader consumer base. Company executives emphasized that the vehicle is designed to serve as an accessible option for everyday adventures and long-term profitability.
