Ember Launches Third-Generation Smart Mug

Temperature-controlled smart device manufacturer Ember has officially introduced its latest hardware release, the Mug 3. Designed to keep hot beverages at a steady temperature for extended periods, the third-generation smart mug arrives with several practical upgrades aimed at daily usability.

Originally introduced in 2016 to prevent hot drinks from turning lukewarm during distractions, the latest iteration seeks to refine the user experience further. According to details shared across hardware and consumer technology coverage, the biggest change focuses on how users interact with the temperature settings.

Physical Controls and App Customization

Unlike previous generations, the new mug allows users to adjust their drink's temperature without opening a mobile application. A button located on the bottom of the mug lets users cycle through five preset temperatures, beginning at 125 degrees Fahrenheit. Each press increases the target temperature by five degrees up to a maximum of 145 degrees.

This physical control option offers a convenient alternative for individuals who have reported running into connectivity or pairing challenges when relying solely on the Ember app over Bluetooth. Nonetheless, the app remains available for those who prefer deeper customization, allowing users to select or create tailored presets for specific drinks like black coffee, green tea, or lemon water.

Design Improvements and Durability

Beyond the physical button, the Mug 3 incorporates structural updates including a sliding lid designed to prevent spills. Furthermore, it marks the first time an Ember mug has been rated top-rack dishwasher-safe, simplifying the cleaning process. However, the manufacturer notes that the device is not microwave-safe.

The battery is engineered to maintain the desired temperature for up to three hours on a single charge. Reviewers and testers note that while the bottom button is a helpful addition, its placement requires tilting the cup and pressing firmly, making it slightly less accessible during regular use.

Pricing, Availability, and the New Tumbler 2

The Ember Mug 3 is available in two distinct sizes: a 10-ounce model priced at $129 and a 14-ounce version priced at $149. The smaller size is offered in black, white, and stainless steel, while the larger variant comes in eight different color options, including sage green, lavender, powder blue, salt blue, sandstone, white, black, and matcha green.

Alongside the flagship mug, the company also released the Tumbler 2, a 16-ounce vessel featuring a slimmer design built to fit standard car cup holders. Priced at $179 in black, the Tumbler 2 officially replaces both the original tumbler and the Travel Mug 2 in Ember's product lineup, though existing travel mugs remain available until current supplies run out.

Consumers can purchase the new hardware products directly through Ember's official website, as well as via major retail platforms including Target and Amazon.
