A new route into creative careers

Apple and The King’s Trust have launched the Apple x King’s Trust Creative Labs, an immersive education program intended to help young people build careers in the creative industries. The initiative will connect participants with Apple experts across different industries as they explore potential career pathways and develop practical skills. Further details are available from Apple Newsroom in the original source material.

The program is designed to provide access to technology, learning resources, mentorship, and expertise, while also helping participants build confidence. Apple said the experience is intended to equip young people with the skills and support needed to realize their potential and move toward employment in creative fields.

First workshops begin in London

The first cohort will include up to 20 young people between the ages of 18 and 30. Participants will join specialized workshops focused on valuable, industry-aligned skills and will use Apple technologies during the educational experience.

The initial sessions began this week with workshops covering the music industry and creative work. They are aligned with the recent opening of Apple Music Hall at Battersea Power Station in London. Apple and The King’s Trust said additional sessions and cohorts are expected over the course of the next year.

The partners did not provide further details about the selection process, the full workshop schedule, or the number of participants expected in later cohorts. The announced program is focused on giving young people direct engagement with professionals and practical exposure to creative-industry pathways.

Apple frames education as an opportunity tool

Apple said the Creative Labs initiative builds on its wider support for educational programming for learners of different ages and backgrounds in the UK and around the world. Those programs aim to help participants gain skills, access resources, and prepare for the workforce.

“At Apple, we believe education is a powerful force for equity and opportunity,” said Alisha Johnson Wilder, Apple’s senior director of Global Community Impact. She said the new program would connect emerging creators and innovators with Apple’s experts, technology, and mentorship as they develop skills, explore their interests, and prepare for work.

Apple’s announcement describes the Creative Labs as an expansion of its longstanding work with The King’s Trust rather than a standalone education effort. The companies said the partnership is intended to open additional opportunities for young people across the UK.

Partnership reaches its 50th year

The launch comes as The King’s Trust marks its 50th anniversary. The organization was founded by His Majesty The King, then the Prince of Wales, in 1976. According to The King’s Trust, it has helped 1.3 million young people across the UK develop life skills, prepare for employment, access job opportunities, and launch businesses.

The organization said at least $15 billion in social value can be attributed directly to the impact of its programs over the past 50 years. It also said many participants supported during the last five years have moved into work, education, or training.

Jonathan Townsend, The King’s Trust’s UK chief executive, said the partnership with Apple had already created opportunities for thousands of young people. He described Creative Labs as a new chapter that would help participants build confidence and creative digital skills as they take their next steps toward employment.

Building on existing digital-skills programs

Apple has supported The King’s Trust since 2019, helping the organization expand its STEAM programming to schools in every region of the UK through the Achieve program. Using Apple’s coding education resources, students work collaboratively and think strategically while developing apps intended to address the needs and goals of their communities.

The King’s Trust also runs a 12-week Team program, which gives young adults access to Apple technology and learning resources while they work toward a Personal Development and Employability qualification. The program forms part of the partnership’s focus on combining digital access with preparation for employment.

In addition, Apple and The King’s Trust are developing resources intended to build AI literacy, creativity, and agency among educators and young people. The work is also designed to help educators thoughtfully integrate newer technologies into their teaching practices.

Apple has made additional images and video related to the initiative available through its newsroom, including a downloadable media package. The Creative Labs workshops and future cohorts will determine how the partnership’s technology and mentoring resources are applied across creative career pathways.
