Apple has refreshed its entry-level laptop lineup by introducing the [14-inch MacBook Pro with a faster M6 chip](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2026/10/apple-introduces-the-new-14-inch-macbook-pro-with-m6/), delivering significant performance boosts and new wireless capabilities.

Apple Refreshes the 14-Inch MacBook Pro
Hot off the release of the iPhone Duo and a major update to the iPad Mini, Apple is continuing its hardware momentum by introducing the [14-inch MacBook Pro with a faster M6 chip](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2026/10/apple-introduces-the-new-14-inch-macbook-pro-with-m6/). According to [Tom's Hardware](https://www.tomshardware.com/laptops/macbooks/apple-adds-m6-to-14-inch-macbook-pro-and-imac-starts-at-usd1-999), the update arrives just ahead of the company's scheduled "Pro and Tell" event in Los Angeles, keeping the familiar physical design while upgrading internal silicon.
While the 14-inch model gains the latest architecture, the larger 16-inch MacBook Pro remains restricted to previous-generation M5 Pro or M5 Max silicon. This leaves a notable gap between Apple's entry-level and high-end pro portable lineups for the time being.

M6 Performance and AI Capabilities
The M6 processor inside the updated MacBook Pro is Apple's first 2nm chip. It features a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU equipped with Neural Accelerators in each core. Apple claims the new silicon delivers 30 percent faster graphics compared to an M5-equipped model, alongside a 25 percent boost to overall AI workloads.
Furthermore, the M6 integrates a dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple states this engine is 1.9 times faster than its predecessor, significantly accelerating tasks such as image generation, super resolution, and upscaling. When working with large language models, the company reports that the system offers up to 1.3 times faster time-to-first-token performance and 1.3 times faster rendering in Blender.

Connectivity and Wireless Upgrades
In addition to core processing improvements, the updated laptop introduces cutting-edge networking technology. Utilizing Apple's N1 wireless networking chip, the device adds support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, bringing advanced wireless connectivity standards to the entry-level pro form factor.
Physical connectivity options remain extensive, featuring an HDMI port, a MagSafe 3 charging connection, three Thunderbolt 4 slots, an SDXC card reader, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Display, Camera, and Design Options
The device retains its Liquid Retina XDR display, capable of up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness. Users can also select an optional nano-texture screen finish for $150 to minimize glare and reflections. Visual features also include a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera.
The laptop is offered in space black and silver color options. The space black variant features an anodized coating designed to reduce the visibility of fingerprints.

Configuration, Pricing, and Availability
The base model of the M6 MacBook Pro starts at $1,999 and includes 16GB of unified memory along with 1TB of storage. Customers can upgrade the unified memory to 24GB or 32GB for an additional $200 or $400, respectively. Storage configurations can also be expanded to 2TB for an extra $500, or 4TB for $1,500.
Pre-orders for the new laptop open on October 28, with official retail sales scheduled to begin on November 6.
