Anthropic Files for Potentially Largest IPO Ever

Blockbuster IPO Filing on Nasdaq

Artificial intelligence giant Anthropic has filed papers for what could become the largest initial public offering of stock in history. The move sets up the San Francisco-based company for a Wall Street debut next month on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol 'ANT', potentially eclipsing the record $86 billion raised by SpaceX.

The detailed financial information was revealed in a comprehensive 335-page document submitted to regulators. The filing shows that Anthropic's revenue reached more than $16 billion in the first half of the year, representing a 14-fold increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

Valuation and Massive Financial Scale

While the exact amount Anthropic will raise remains uncertain alongside its final valuation and offering price, estimates suggest the five-year-old startup could bring in as much as $100 billion. Private investors valued the company earlier in the year at $965 billion, and reports indicate that valuation could surge to between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion.

Despite rapid revenue growth, the creator of the Claude chatbot has not yet turned a profit. The company reported a net loss of $80.7 billion in the first half of 2026, which included a one-time $72.4 billion accounting charge related to financing agreements. The immense capital requirements of building and training advanced AI models have fueled widespread industry concerns regarding a potential market bubble.

Executive Warnings on AI Safety

Even as the company pursues a historic public offering, Anthropic leadership continues to highlight severe dangers associated with the technology. The regulatory filing features a nearly 100-page section detailing extensive risk factors, ranging from routine business challenges to catastrophic scenarios.

Among the severe risks highlighted in the paperwork are the possibilities of malicious actors using models to build chemical weapons, authoritarian regimes employing the technology for surveillance, and AI models going rogue to pose an existential threat to humanity.

Governance Structure and Founder Control

To safeguard its long-term safety focus, Anthropic has implemented unusual governance provisions. Co-founders including CEO Dario Amodei and his sister and president Daniela Amodei, alongside five other co-founders, have been granted 50.1% of shareholder voting power through a special class of shares.

Additionally, the company established an independent Long-Term Benefit Trust. This trust holds the power to appoint directors and is designed specifically to ensure that public safety is never compromised for financial interests.

Industry Competition and Government Tensions

Formed in 2021 by former OpenAI leaders, Anthropic maintains an intense rivalry with OpenAI and other major technology competitors. The rapid push to tap public markets reflects the heavy financial burdens shared across the sector as companies race to build and expand their infrastructure.

The public offering also follows a period of friction with the United States government regarding national security designations and military applications of AI. Despite these hurdles, Anthropic's upcoming Wall Street debut stands to reshape the financial landscape for artificial intelligence enterprises.
