Anthropic workforce report shows shift to senior staff and meetings
Anthropic has published a new report detailing how its workplace composition and daily operations have evolved significantly over the past year.

Shifts in Workforce Composition and Hiring
According to a report published by [Anthropic](https://techcrunch.com/tag/anthropic/) on Friday, the composition of the artificial intelligence company's workforce and the nature of its daily operations have changed significantly over the past year. The organization suggests that its internal workplace trends could serve as broader indicators of how [AI](https://techcrunch.com/category/artificial-intelligence/) might shift work organization, labor demand, and hiring practices across the economy, especially since the company has deeply integrated workflows around artificial intelligence.
Details outlined in [a report](https://www.anthropic.com/research/employment-at-anthropic) indicate that the company is making fewer junior hires. Since early 2025, the proportion of junior-level employees within technical departments dropped from 21% to 14%. Furthermore, the proportion of junior technical hires experienced an even sharper decline, falling from 27% to 9%.
Evolution of Technical Teams and Coding Tools
In addition to hiring fewer junior personnel, technical teams now account for a smaller percentage of Anthropic's overall workforce. The share of technical personnel fell from 61% to 56%. The organization attributes this shift to the natural expansion of business operations as it scales, alongside coding tools that increasingly empower non-technical employees to build software independently.
Employees report facing constant pressure to move quickly and utilize Claude for everyday tasks. Data from an April 2026 survey showed that 27% of workers felt more productive because of Claude, while 20% noted that their daily responsibilities had shifted away from execution toward managing various instances of the assistant. One engineer likened this dynamic to babysitting, explaining that individual Claudes bring forth inquiries demanding equal attention.
Productivity Gains and Bottlenecks
The published findings suggest that human attention and judgement are turning into a primary productivity bottleneck. As Claude produces a large volume of text, staff members must spend considerable time reading and organizing the output. Despite this challenge, the report argues that overall productivity has increased, pointing to metrics such as higher code output per person, more closed sales per representative, and increased contract processing.
While acknowledging that generating more code does not automatically guarantee superior quality or greater business impact, the company stated it has not observed any evidence indicating a decline in the quality of code produced.
Increase in Meeting Times
Calendar data highlights another notable workplace change: meeting time per employee has increased by 20% compared to the previous year, while technical contributors have seen a 16% rise in meeting duration. Anthropic attributes this trend to the vital role of human trust and accountability, with employees frequently emphasizing that face-to-face coordination remains indispensable.
